Royals win Girl’s Cranberry Classic

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – The High School Basketball season got underway in a hurry with the completion of the 41^st annual Cranberry Classic at Assumption High School.

The Assumption girls won the title with an 81-21 victory over Nekoosa to open the tournament. They also defeated Columbus Catholic 56-43.

Nekoosa also fell in the consolation game against Pittsville, 67-31.

In the Boys Division, both Nekoosa and Assumption finished the tournament with 0-2 records. They took on tough competition in Neillsville and Columbus Catholic.

Nekoosa fell to the Dons 78-35 and the Warriors 76-48.

The Royals were defeated by Neillsville 78-66, while coming up short to the Dons in overtime, 55-54.

Gun-Deer season sees results

At dusk on Sunday, November 30, the traditional nine-day gun-deer season in the state of Wisconsin came to an end.

Preliminary numbers show 181,670 total deer were registered for the season which was a 1.5- percent decrease in the five-year average and .8-percent lower than in 2024.

Riverkings play at home

After an extended vacation, the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings get back to action over Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6 when they host the Steele County Blades.

Rapids is currently tied for first place atop the USPHL Premier North Division standings with the Minnesota Squatch with 34 points.

Both games will be played at 7:00pm.

Packers and Bears renew rivalry

The longest rivalry in the NFL adds another chapter on Sunday, December 7 when Chicago visits Green Bay at 3:25pm.

The Packers and Bears first met in 1921 and hold a 108-96-6 record in the overall series, which features two playoff meetings and are 49-20 since 1990.
