Packers and Brewers return to action while Riverkings stay hot
The Packers and Brewers are back in action after some time off. Riverkings hockey earned a series sweep, but local football teams struggle.
Another tough week for local Football
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – It was another tough week on the gridiron for the local football teams, as each one was handed a defeat.
Wisconsin Rapids fell to Eau Claire Memorial 29-20; Assumption lost to Pittsville 30-6; Port Edwards came up short against Newman Catholic 48-6, and Nekoosa fell to Ripon 55-28.
The Raiders will host New Richmond to end homecoming week in its regular season home finale, while Assumption plays at Auburndale.
Port will play at Menominee Indian, while Nekoosa hosts the Wisconsin Dells.
The Papermakers and Chiefs will air on 105.5 FM WIRI with the pregame show starting at 6:50 p.m. with Mike Kommer on the call.
Riverkings remain perfect
For the second weekend in a row, the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings earned a series sweep over USPHL Premier North Division foes with a sweep over the Minnesota Outlaws over Oct. 2 and Oct. 4.
The Riverkings won the opener 12-0, and then sealed the sweep at 10-3.
Wisconsin Rapids now plays in a USPHL Showcase in New Jersey, where they will play four games against the Red Bank Generals, West Chester Wolves, Connecticut Junior Rangers, and Mercer Chiefs over Oct. 9 to Oct. 11.
Packers, Brewers return after byes
The Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers return to action in their respective seasons after byes.
The Brewers are currently leading the best-of-five National League Divisional Series with the Chicago Cubs with a series lead of 2-1.
The teams play again on Thursday, Oct. 9, and on Saturday, Oct. 11, if needed.
For the Packers, they return home for the first time in nearly a month. They’ll take on the Cincinnati Bengals at 3:25 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12.
Green Bay sports a 2-1-1 overall record, while Cincinnati is 2-3 overall.
The Packers and Bengals are 7-7-0 against each other, with the Packers having won the previous two matchups in overtime in 2017 and 2021.
