Most of us love to “celebrate” Cinco de Mayo, but what is Cinco de Mayo really about? A lot of people think it’s Mexico’s independence day, but that is actually in September, September 16th to be exact. Cinco de Mayo honors, May 5, 1862, when a smaller, poorly equipped Mexican militia led by General Ignacio Zaragoza defeated a much larger, well-equipped French army. It didn’t end the French invasion, but it became a major morale booster for Mexican resistance. And now you know.
