Today happens to be actor James McAvoy‘s 46th birthday and I just so happened to watch a movie over the weekend that the birthday boy starred in.
But to say he starred in this movie doesn’t even seem good enough. He was great. In fact, every movie I’ve ever seen with him in it is great. The strangest compliment I can hand out to James McAvoy is: you play a really, realllllllly good psychopath.
I mean realllllly good. Alarmingly so.
To the point where I was thinking to myself after the movie ended: this isn’t the first time I have been really creeped out by one of his performances. Split (2016) also comes to mind. He was GREAT in that movie, too.
So what is this insanely good thriller? Speak No Evil
It’s not just the top notch performance from McAvoy, either. The entire cast was so good. I wanted to hug the kids and snatch them up and get them to safety. I wanted to shake the husband and tell him to “Man up, buddy!” on multiple occasions. The rest of the cast? Just perfect! I don’t want to say more and spoil anything. You’ll see what I mean.
The entire movie was edge of the seat dread. Unsettling, nerve wracking, awesomeness. My perfect kind of movie.
Then I hear that Speak No Evil is actually a remake of a 2022 foreign film by the same name and I kinda want to watch that one now, too. Word on the street is that the ending is slightly different and while I liked the ending I already watched, I’m all in for whatever else awaits!
So should you watch Speak No Evil? The answer is yes! As soon as possible.
