Spring seasons hit the playoffs for High School Athletes
Spring seasons hit the playoffs. NBA and NHL approach title series. Brewers atop the Division within the first two months.
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – The Spring sports season is heating up with the tournaments of several sports beginning.
Assumption and Nekoosa softball will be competing in regional final games on Thursday, May 28. The Royals play at Almond-Bancroft in Division 5 and Nekoosa at Wittenberg-Birnamwood in Division 3.
Wisconsin Rapids and Port Edwards softball were both eliminated from their respective tournaments.
In baseball, Assumption, Nekoosa, and Port Edwards begin the playoff quest with the Royals hosting Gresham Community. Port goes to Tigerton in Division 4 and Nekoosa plays at Amherst in regional quarterfinal contests.
In Track and Field, Wisconsin Rapids sent five events to the WIAA Division 1 sectional. Assumption advanced in 14 events with Nekoosa moving on in seven in a WIAA Division 3 sectional. Both sectionals will be held on Friday, May 29.

NBA, NHL near crowning champions
The National Basketball Association and National Hockey League got closer to naming their champions for the 2025-2026 seasons.
In the NBA, the New York Knicks won the Eastern Conference and will take on either the Oklahoma City Thunder of San Antonio Spurs.
In the NHL, the Las Vegas Golden Knights won the Western Conference and will take on the winner of the series between the Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadians for the right to hoist the Stanley Cup.
Brewers continuing strong play
With two months of the Major League Baseball season down, the Milwaukee Brewers sit atop the National League Central standings with a record of 33-20.
St. Louis and Chicago are tied for second as they are 4.5 games back, while Cincinnati is fourth at 29-26 and Pittsburgh fifth at 29-27.
The NL Central is the only division in baseball where each team is above .500.
