Riverkings finish strong at Showcase

After experiencing its longest losing streak of the season, the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings got back to the winning side of things when they competed in the USPHL Chicago Showcase over December 13-15.

Rapids went 3-1 losing 4-2 to the Metro Jets to open the showcase, but closed it out with a 4-2 win over Fort Wayne, 4-0 over Battle Creek, and 1-0 over Cincinnati.

The Riverkings won’t compete again January 9 and 10 at Spooner, Wisconsin against the Northwest Express.

High School Sports near break.

Christmas Break is on the horizon and the high school sports seasons are busy as ever before the break.

Wisconsin Rapids Boys and Girls basketball split a doubleheader with Marshfield with the Girls winning 39-25, but the boys falling 73-54.

Assumption had similar luck as the Girls defeated Rib Lake 61-48 while the boys were defeated 60-40. The Girls also earned a 48-37 win over Edgar, while the boys beat Stratford, 58-48.

Rapids wrestling got a 48-27 dual victory over Lodi, then got one champion at the Husky Invite in Jackson Freeman (106.)

Overall, Rapids finished 7th with 292 points, Nekoosa/Port Edwards 19th with 105 points, and Assumption/Pacelli 26th with 54.5 points.

Wisconsin Volleyball back in Final Four.

For the fifth time in the past seven seasons, the Wisconsin Women’s Volleyball team is in the NCAA Division 1 final four.

This time they will be taking on Kentucky on Thursday, December 18 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The game between the Wildcats and Badgers will be played approximately 30-minutes after the conclusion of the other semifinal match between Texas A&M and Pittsburgh.

Packers and Bears to meet again.

After an epic clash less than two weeks ago, the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears are destined to meet again, this time in the Windy City.

The Packers and Bears will be meeting on Saturday, December 20 at 7:20pm.

Green Bay won the first meeting of the season, 28-21, on December 7 at Lambeau Field.
