Cranberry Classic games are happening now

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) –  Over Friday and Saturday, November 28 and 29 the 41st annual Cranberry Classic Basketball Tournament will be held at Assumption High School featuring several local teams.

In Girls action, the Royals will take on Nekoosa at approximately 1:15pm with Columbus Catholic taking on Pittsville at 11:30am.

The Boys will begin at approximately 6:15pm when Columbus Catholic takes on Nekoosa while the day ends with Neillsville vs Assumption at 8:00pm.

On Day 2, the losers of the girls games will play at 11:30am, while the winners will play at 1:15pm, while in boys play, Nekoosa will play Neillsville at 6:15pm and Assumption vs Columbus Catholic will close out the tournament at 8:00pm.

Winter Sports are underway

Winter sports have begun with Hockey and Girls Basketball being the main focus.

Wisconsin Rapids is 3-1 with three-straight wins over Tomah, Merrill, and Superior, while Assumption is 1-1 with a win over Westfield and loss in overtime to Stratford.

Nekoosa is 0-2 with losses to Mauston and the Wisconsin Dells.

Rapids Hockey opened the season with a 7-0 victory over West Salem.

Riverkings split series with Squatch

The Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings saw its winning streak come to an end at 13 games as it split the weekend series with the Minnesota Squatch.

Rapids won the opening game 6-5 in overtime, while suffering a 5-3 defeat to end the stint in Minnesota.

Rapids will next play over December 5 and 6 when they host the Steele County Blades at the South Wood County Recreation Center with puck drop slated for 7pm both nights.

Packers win on Thanksgiving

For the third year in a row, the Green Bay Packers earned a win on Thanksgiving with a 31-24 victory over the Detroit Lions.

The Packers and Lions have clashed the most times in NFL history on the holiday, having met 23 times with the Detroit leading the series on the day by a margin of 12-10-1.

Overall, the Packers and Lions have met since 1930 where Green Bay leads the series 108-78-7.
