Royals return to state
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – For the sixth year in a row, the Assumption Girls Cross Country team will be returning to the WIAA State Cross Country Championships.
This time, it will be as a member of the Division 2 field, as they will be set to race at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
The Royals will be led by senior Lucy Dolan, and she looks to cap her prep career on the podium for the fourth time after placing fifth as a junior, third as a sophomore, and fourth as a freshman.
Freshman Michael Dolan and sophomore Reed Hartjes will also be competing on the day for the Royals, as they will be in the Division 3 Boys race beginning at noon.
Riverkings hit the road after an exciting weekend
For the sixth game in a row, the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings have been successful, but it wasn’t easy when they faced the Northwest Express over Oct. 24 and Oct. 25.
Despite failing to score first in both games, the Riverkings responded to earn a 5-4 victory in the opener, while scoring the game-winning goals with 4.4 seconds remaining in the finale for the 3-2 win.
Rapids will next play over Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1 when they take on the Fresh Coast Freeze in Holland, Michigan with puck drops at 7:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Packers return home
After knocking off former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers will return home for the first time in three weeks, where they’ll take on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Nov. 2 at noon.
The Packers will be wearing their throwback jerseys from 1923 as they look to win their fourth consecutive game over the Panthers.
Green Bay owns a 12-6-0 record over Carolina with its first meeting being in the 1996 NFC championship game.
