APPLETON, WI—(WISS)— The Independence Day holiday weekend brought more than a cookout and fireworks to Appleton. Someone is two million dollars richer thanks to a Powerball ticket purchased in Appleton.

A winning $2 million ticket was sold at the Festival Foods on Van Roy Road for the July 5th Drawing. It matched all five numbers (1-28-34-50-58), but not the Powerball (8).

With the PowerPlay feature, the million-dollar prize increased to $2 million. The winner has 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their winnings. Information on how to claim a prize is on wilottery.com. Players can also check to see if their ticket is a winner by using the Lottery mobile app, available on the App Store or Google Play.

There have been two million-dollar Powerball prizes won in Wisconsin so far this year. Interestingly enough, both were sold at Festival Foods locations.

In the United States, only two Powerball tickets matched five numbers for the Saturday drawing. One in Wisconsin and one in Louisiana. The Powerball jackpot was last won on May 31, when a California player hit the $204.5 million jackpot.

Powerball drawings are Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. Tickets must be purchased before 9 p.m. to be included in the drawing. The $1 Power Play add-on option gives players the chance to multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to five times their original value.
