MADISON, Wis (CIVIC MEDIA) – Senator Tammy Baldwin joins several other Democratic senators in introducing the “No War Against Iran Act” to the U.S. Senate Wednesday.

According to a press release, the act would “prohibit the use of federal funds for any use of military force in or against Iran without specific Congressional authorization.” The proposal comes in the aftermath of President Trump’s covert operation that destroyed three Iranian nuclear sites, titled “Operation Midnight Hammer.”

The bombing was orchestrated without congressional approval. Senator Baldwin condemned the Trump Administration in a statement, calling Pres. Trump’s actions “unconstitutional.”

I agree with the vast majority of Wisconsinites who don’t want to send American troops abroad and get us involved in another war in the Middle East. Period. President Trump got us into this situation by pulling out of the last deal, which would have restricted Iran’s nuclear program. No President, including Donald Trump, can start an all-out war without Congress signing off, and what Donald Trump did was frankly unconstitutional. The President should be laser-focused on diplomacy to reduce tensions and prevent our country from being launched into another conflict with no clear end in sight.

The full bill can be viewed here. Read Civic Media’s previous coverage of the President’s operation.
