WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WFHR) – Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Matt Zacher stopped by WFHR Studios for an interview on The Rapids Report.
Transparency
Mayor Matt Zacher began the interview by making a point to show his appreciation for all the work Wisconsin Rapids Community Media is doing. They have been able to help share really in-depth information and exclusive footage with the community. Mayor Zacher is grateful to have them for being a bridge between the local government and the community it serves. Malouf commented about the transparency of this Mayor, which is made possible in part with Wisconsin Rapids Community Media.
The Communications Survey
The Communications Survey results and how to act on them was the next topic of conversation. The city is showing a shift towards a more entrepreneurial economy, and both men noted the rise in businesses coming to town. Malouf said that this boost in entrepreneurship points to one of the reasons folks might’ve voted for him.
As an entrepreneur himself, Zacher is proud of the boost in small businesses starting up in town. Zacher then owned up to the issues being brought up by the Survey about certain infrastructure issues and road conditions. Malouf and Mayor Matt Zacher then discussed the possibility of public transit in the town. No official discussions have taken place on this subject, but it will be one of many solutions presented when considering the restructuring of 8th Street in the near future.
Updating Dispatch
The conversation then led to ongoing work with EMS and Emergency Dispatch in regard to the city’s aging population. In town, there is such a large population of elderly folks without support that they have taken to calling dispatch to help them. To serve the needs of the population there are changes taking place with area social workers. They are employing a social worker in dispatch to help make sure that the needs of the elderly are being met, without taking resources away from emergency services.
The Mill
Malouf ended the conversation by asking about an update on the construction at the former site of the Mills. Zacher said that he was grateful to be able to share video footage of certain areas of the site, which you can find on Wisconsin Rapids Community Media’s Youtube page. Zacher also stated that he thought the construction was all coming along well and on schedule.
