It took a win-or-go-home game 3 with the Northwest Express, but the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings are one more step closer to returning to the USPHL Premier National Tournament.
The Riverkings got the job done as they earned a 7-2 victory over the Express on Sunday, March 9 at the South Wood County Recreation Center.
Rapids took the first game 5-2 on Friday, March 7, but on Saturday, March 8, they were upended early in overtime for a 4-3 defeat setting up the rubber game.
Now, Rapids will take on the top-seeded Minnesota Squatch in the North Division Championship series over March 14 and 15, and will play the tiebreaker on the 16 if needed.
The Riverkings held a 2-1-1 record over the Squatch during the regular season as they had wins of 5-4 and 7-2, a loss of 1-6, and an overtime loss of 3-4.
For the first time since 2022, the Assumption Girls Basketball team is returning to the WIAA Division 5 State Tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
The Royals earned the No. 1 seed and will take on fourth-seeded Owen-Withee at 9:05 a.m. on Friday, March 14.
If the Royals beat O-W, then they will play the winner of No. 2 Lourdes Academy vs No. 3 Barneveld on Saturday, March 15 at 11:05 a.m..
This is the eighth appearance for the Royals at state where they have three titles, 2013, 2016, and 2021 and were runners-up in 2013, 2014, and 2022.
With winter sports in their final games, spring sports are on the cusp of beginning.
Track and Field began practice on Monday, March 10, as they will begin competitions next week.
Softball practice on March 17. On March 24, Baseball, Boys Golf, and Girls Soccer both begin as March 31 Boys Tennis will begin.
