In a recent discussion on Mid-Day Magazine host James J. Malouf was joined by Ronald Rasmussen, Superintendent at WRPS, Tracy Ginter, Principal at WRAMS, and some students who are part of the “Teen Truth” group at Wisconsin Rapids Area Middle School, Iris Abts, Emily Khairy, Kaari Westfall, and Mykah Wettstein.

Teen Truth

Teen Truth is a youth-led organization whose mission is to promote acceptance, and support for everyone at Wisconsin Rapids Area Middle School(WRAMS) regardless of any underlying differences. When asked about why they wanted to get involved the students expressed a lot of empathy for those around them. Some students mentioned having relocated from other schools and feeling a need to get involved. Others even said that after attending WRAMS they came face to face with a more diverse group than ever before and saw that need clearly.

Caring Closet

When asked about how the group accomplishes its mission Ginter pointed to their Caring Closet program. The students explained that the program is meant to provide for those less fortunate. The Caring Closet program collects some hygiene and other essentials that may not be available to everyone at all times. It is made available for students to just grab what they need when they need it without any hassle. Rasmussen added that other schools in the district are also employing the Caring Closet program and programs like it.
