Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. (WFHR, WIRI) – The Lights of Love Tree Lighting Ceremony took place at Aspirus Riverview Hospital on Wednesday night in Wisconsin Rapids. The crowd gathered in the snow and cold for this beautiful celebration. The ceremony honors those in our community who are struggling with their health and in remembrance of those we have lost.
The live remote began at 4:30 PM on WFHR 97.5 FM / 1320 AM. Aspirus employees were interviewed giving a history of Lights of Love and talking about volunteer opportunities at Aspirus. Attendees heard from Cindy Bates who is the Choir Director of the 3rd-5th Grade Choir from Grove Elementary. WRAMS 6th Grade ELA Teachers Paige Jackan and Cara Johnson shared how the essay contest worked and how the winners were chosen. VP of Ancillary Services at Aspirus, Lisa Skibba, talked about the Aspirus Riverview Foundation and updates happening at their facility.
President of Aspirus Riverview Hospital and Clinics gave the welcome message and Pastor Milt Van Natta of Baker Street Wesleyan Church blessed everyone gathered and those listening on the radio.
Three 6th grade Students from WRAMS shared poems and essays they wrote for the essay contest called, “The Greatest Thing to Give”. Peyton Grassl read her poem which placed third. Breelyn Lau won second place with her essay reading second. Noah Linzmeier read his essay which took first place in the contest.
The 3rd through 5th grade choir from Grove School sang two Christmas songs. These students volunteered to be involved in this special opportunity. They worked after school to prepare Christmas Carols for the Tree Lighting Ceremony. This led into a very heartfelt Community Message by Michelle Kubisiak. She shared her family’s journey and her son’s battle with cancer.
The crowd counted down together to light the tree display to close out the celebration. The display is located at Aspirus along the East Riverview Expressway. These special trees will remain lit through the holiday season.
