Celebrate more than 100 years of heritage at the Central Wisconsin State Fair through August 25, 2024
The fairgrounds in Marshfield have been a cornerstone of community life since the mid-1800s, originally serving as a horse driving park. This historic site laid the foundation for what would become one of Central Wisconsin’s most cherished traditions.
The concept of an annual agricultural exposition took root on the streets of Marshfield in the early 1900s, sparking enthusiasm among locals. Recognizing the need for permanent fairgrounds, an association was soon formed to sell memberships. These efforts financed the transformation of the horse driving park into a dedicated fair site, ensuring the tradition would continue for generations.
One of the most iconic structures on the grounds is the world’s largest round barn, a marvel of engineering that has stood for more than a century. This unique building, still in use today, is a testament to the enduring spirit of the fair and the community supporting it.
Visitors to the Central Wisconsin State Fair can immerse themselves in this rich history while enjoying modern attractions. Whether you’re watching 4-H participants showcase their hard work, indulging in classic fair food, or trying your hand at the carnival games, there’s something for everyone.
In addition to all the festivities, you’re invited to visit the Civic Media “Truth Booth.” This interactive experience offers you the chance to share your thoughts about the fair, life in the Marshfield area, and beyond.
And don’t forget to sign up for your local WFHR 97.5 FM / 1320 AM and WIRI 105.5 FM newsletter to stay connected with real news and engaging conversations in your community.
The Central Wisconsin State Fair runs through Sunday, August 25th. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a blend of history, tradition, and family fun!
