GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW & WISS) – The First Lady, Jill Biden, visited Green Bay Thursday to launch the Seniors for Biden Harris campaign. Her speech focused primarily on how the Biden-Harris Administration has supported Senior citizens.
Jill Biden said her husband President Joe Biden has strengthened the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid and has brought the uninsured rate of Americans lower than any other president has done, all efforts that benefit senior citizens.
“He capped insulin at $35 per month for seniors,” said Biden. “For the first time in history, he made sure Medicare can negotiate drug prices directly. Something that presidents have been trying to do for decades.”
She added former President Donald Trump wants to eliminate the Affordable Care Act and cut social security.
“Donald Trump supported ending Medicare as we know it. He came one vote away from repealing the Affordable Care Act, which would have raised drug prices by hundreds of dollars a year,” said Biden. “He wants to cut social security to give more tax breaks to his billionaire friends. Make no mistake. Donald Trump is dangerous, to our livelihoods, to our security, and to our country.”
Biden mentioned people compare Joe Biden at 81 with Donald Trump at 78. But she said age is not the issue for this election.
“But what this election is about, It’s about the character of the person leading our country. It’s about finishing the job we started,” Biden said.
She ended her speech by encouraging senior citizens to keep the conversation going by telling friends and family members why this election is so important. She encouraged the crowd to join the phone banks, to campaign, and most importantly, to vote.
“Bring the experience of our years to meet this moment as if our rights are at risk. Because they are! As if our democracy is on the line. Because it is!” she said.
Polls are showing Biden and Trump are in an extremely close race. Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania are considered crucial swing states that may help decide the election in November.
