Racine, Wis. (Civic Media) – Greta Neubauer, the Democratic representative for Wisconsin’s 66th Assembly District, has officially launched her campaign for reelection. The district covers Sturtevant, Elmwood Park, and part of Racine.

Neubauer, who was elected as the Assembly Democratic Leader in December 2021, made history as the first woman to hold that position. At this point, there’s only one other announced canidate for the 66th. That is Republican Christian Kuether, a social studies teacher at St. Marcus Lutheran School in Milwaukee.

Neubauer says she will continue fighting for the issues that matter most to her constituents. “I can’t wait for the opportunity to pass popular policy that supports our schools and provides every kid with great opportunities, that helps working families make ends meet, and that builds safer and more welcoming communities across the state,” Neubauer said in her campaign launch statement.

Kuether, the Republican challenger, has outlined his own priorities for the district, focusing on education, the economy, and taxes. In an interview with the Racine County Eye, Kuether outlined a focus on education reform through school choice and support for trade schools and apprenticeships, as well as economic priorities such as advocating for more manufacturing jobs, supporting small businesses, and pushing for lower income taxes for the working and middle classes.

The 66th Assembly District has a Democratic lean, with a 55.6% Democratic performance in previous elections, according to WisPolitics.com

The full campaign announcement is below.

“I’m excited to announce that I am running for reelection to the Wisconsin State Assembly in the 66th District! I love working with the people of Racine to build a stronger, more resilient community, and we have a lot of important work to do in the years ahead.
“With new, fair legislative maps in place for the upcoming elections, Wisconsinites will finally have the opportunity to make their voices heard in both legislative elections and in the Capitol. Winning fair maps has been a top priority for me since taking office, as I saw the people of Racine and Wisconsin being silenced by the legislative gerrymander. This fall’s elections have the ability to fundamentally shift the direction of our state.
“Our community deserves so much more than we’ve been given by the Republican-controlled State Legislature. I can’t wait for the opportunity to pass popular policy that supports our schools and provides every kid with great opportunities, that helps working families make ends meet, that builds safer and more welcoming communities across the state. We need to address the long term challenges of housing and healthcare affordability, we need to increase the availability of childcare, and we need to tackle climate change.
“I look forward to meeting new constituents and reconnecting with those I’ve represented for a while throughout this campaign. Thank you for your trust and your partnership in the important work of building a Wisconsin where we all can thrive. I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together in the years ahead!”
