BARABOO, Wis. (WMDX) – Wisconsin Assembly Rep. Dave Considine will not seek re-election in 2024, the Democrat announced Wednesday.

Considine, who represents the 81st Assembly District, has served in the legislature for the past 10 years.

“Thank you to everyone who has sent letters, attended listening sessions, made phone calls, and taken the time to share with me the issues closest to your heart,” Considine wrote on social media. “I am amazed at how much I have learned and grown because of your trust in me.”

In a release announcing his retirement from office, Considine highlighted his relatively unique position as a Wisconsin Democrat from a mostly rural area. The 81st District includes the City of Baraboo, where Considine lives, but also includes a number of villages north and west of Madison, such as Cross Plains, Sauk City, Prairie du Sac, Black Earth, Mazomanie, and Arena. The district covers parts of Sauk, Columbia, Dane, and Iowa counties.

Considine is the highest-ranking member of the Assembly’s Committee on Agriculture and is also on the Education, Mental Health, Rural Development and Transportation committees.

“I hope if my service has meant anywhere near to you what it has meant to me, it will encourage you to remain actively involved in your government at every level and vote every time you get the chance,” Considine said.
